The Windy Boy incorporates the same proven technology used in all Sunny Boy inverters with special firmware that permits direct grid-tie operation with compatible wind turbines - without batteries. The Windy Boy is available in 1800W, 2500W and 6000W models for increased system sizing versatility. SMA America, Inc. Announces the New DC Disconnect Switch

The Windy Boy/Sunny Boy 3300U and 3800U inverters now ship with an integral fused DC Disconnect Switch. The switch is installed flush to the bottom of the inverter, and is fixed to the inverter wall mount bracket (please see the attached inverter data sheets for a clear picture of this configuration).

The switch includes:

Load-break rated DC switch.

A handle with provisions for a lock-out tag or padlock.

Four 15A, 600Vdc string fuses included.

Two, four-position terminal blocks for PV+ and PV- string wires. 

One AC terminal block for L1, L2, PE, and Chassis Ground wires.

Convenient knockouts for 1/2", 3/4" and 1" conduits.

Corrosion-proof painted aluminum enclosure.

Four 15A, 600Vdc string fuses are included inside the switch housing. Smaller fuses can be installed for lower current PV modules. Two knockouts are located on the left and right sides, rear and bottom of the switch enclosure. The knockouts are at convenient 90° and parallel angles to the mounting surface.

AC and DC wires are landed to terminal blocks inside the switch enclosure. This allows safe and easy removal from of the inverter from an installation without exposing personnel to any live wires (please refer to the installation manual for detailed information on the switch and safe inverter removal procedures).
